MANILA – Filipino Carlos Edriel Yulo bagged the men's vault gold medal Saturday night at the close of the 53rd FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia. Yulo scored 14.886 points to beat Armenian Arthur Davtyan (14.833) and Ukrainian Nazar Chepurnyi (14.483). Davtyan dethroned Yulo in the 2022 United Kingdom edition but placed second behind the 4-foot-11 Filipino at the Paris Olympics final last year.

MANILA – The Marcos administration's intensified agricultural support and increased areas harvested for palay (unhusked rice) have helped fuel the Philippines' historic-high yield for the first half of the year, the Department of Agriculture (DA) said. Based on the Philippine Statistics Authority's (PSA) latest data, the country hit over 9.077 million metric tons (MT) of palay production from January to June, higher than the previous all-time high of 9.026 MT for the same period in 2023, and last year's 8.53 million MT.

MANILA – Authorities have arrested more than 5,000 drug high-value targets (HVTs) and seized nearly PHP32 billion worth of narcotics since the start of the President Ferdinand Marcos Jr administration's crackdown on illegal drugs in mid-2022, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) reported on Wednesday. In its latest report on the national anti-drug campaign, PDEA said a total of 5,366 HVTs were arrested from July 1, 2022, to Jan. 31, 2024.

MANILA – Fuel prices are scheduled to rise again on Tuesday by as much as PHP2.70 per liter. In separate advisories Monday, Seaoil, PTT Philippines, and Jetti Petroleum said the price of their gasoline products will be hiked by PHP1.70 per liter and diesel by PHP2.70 per liter, effective 6 a.m. Seaoil said the price of its kerosene will also increase by PHP2.10 per liter.
